Each year SHARE is run by a Student Executive team. This is a group of students from schools across the city, who commit to an allocation of hours a week in service of SHARE. Their work involves a visit to a member of the SHARE community every Wednesday for an hour. This is without doubt, the most important part of their role. It provides the unique inter-generational bond, built on friendship, which makes SHARE the success that it is.
YELLOW JACKETS
The other major part of the Executive’s job is the preparing and running of the annual fundraising campaign. The familiar yellow jackets across the city in the run up to Christmas, are a sure sign Christmas is on the way. This is the only time of the year that SHARE fundraise, and so it’s an incredibly important time for the organisation, its residents, its day centre visitors and the wider SHARE community.
STUDENTS
Hundreds of students from across Cork collect with the SHARE executive each year. The hundreds of Cork students, who line the streets for SHARE, make a monumental impact to SHARE. Students who have very busy schedules, that prevent them from partaking as a year-long volunteer, are better suited to this role.
Christmas can be a very lonely time, and the joy and energy this brings to the community is very special.
